A vanpool is a group of people who are coming to the same workplace from the same community, riding together in a van. Vanpools typically carry from seven to fifteen passengers, and operate weekdays, traveling between one or two common pick-up locations (typically a park-and-ride lot where a rider may leave his/her car or a transit station) and the workplace. Vanpool participants report saving up to $3,000 or more a year on gas, car maintenance, and wear and tear as well as reduced stress and commuting time. The primary employer advantage is the need for fewer parking spaces; other advantages include less employee stress and improved productivity.
