New Fares Effective February 2nd, 2026

Our updated fares will keep CCRTA affordable while supporting essential community programs, increasing safety & security, providing accessible services, and improving overall rider comfort & experience.

Why are Fares Changing?

CCRTA keeps our community moving by helping people get to work, school, and essential services. We provide free rides for students, seniors, and young children, and support local shelters and nonprofits. Public transit connects our community, strengthens our city, and we’re proud to serve you every day.

First Fare Change in 20 Years

This is only the second time CCRTA has raised fares in our 40-year history. We’ve worked hard to avoid increasing fares for as long as possible, but rising costs now make an update necessary. Our last fare change was 20 years ago in 2006 and this update helps us continue providing safe, reliable service for our community.

Rising Costs of Operation

Fuel, vehicle parts, maintenance supplies, and equipment have all increased significantly over the last several years. Updating fares helps CCRTA meet these rising costs while continuing to provide safe, dependable public transportation across the Coastal Bend. It ensures we can maintain our fleet, keep buses running smoothly, and protect the long-term sustainability of the system our community relies on.

Keeping Service Reliable

Every day, riders depend on us to get to work, school, medical appointments, and essential destinations. Updated fares help us maintain a high standard of service, from routine maintenance and safety inspections to keeping vehicles clean, comfortable, and on time. This allows us to continue delivering the dependable transit experience our community expects, even as demand grows.

Expanding Community Access

CCRTA is committed to making transit accessible to everyone. Fare updates help support the free and reduced-fare programs that make a meaningful impact in our region. These include:

  • Free rides for PreK–12 students
  • Free rides for local college and university students
  • Free rides for children ages 6 and younger
  • NEW: Free rides for riders age 65+
  • Transit tokens distributed to shelters, food banks & nonprofit partners
  • Fare-free shuttles at major community events, including Día de los Muertos, the Jazz Festival, Buc Days, and other large gatherings that bring our city together

By sustaining these programs, we help ensure that cost is never a barrier for those who depend on transportation the most.

Investing in Technology

Modernizing transit means giving riders tools that make travel easier, faster, and more convenient. Updated fares help support improvements like the GoPass mobile app, where riders can buy passes instantly, track their bus in real time, and manage their travel digitally.

Continued investment in technology allows CCRTA to enhance the rider experience, streamline boarding, reduce wait times, and improve overall efficiency.

Enhancing Safety & Security

We’re working hard to keep our buses safe for everyone. CCRTA has off-duty police officers who ride with us, cameras on every bus, and all our vehicles are Safe Havens where anyone can ask for help.
